The Okachi Charity Foundation was born out of love, legacy, and a bold commitment to change. Founded by Faith Morey in honor of her grandmother, Mrs. Charity Okachi, the foundation carries the name of a woman whose devotion to education transformed lives across generations. Known affectionately as “Big Mama” in Diobu, Port Harcourt, Mrs. Okachi was more than an educator ; she was a pillar of strength, a mother figure to many, and a beacon of hope for underserved children.
A dedicated public school teacher for over 30 years, her unwavering belief in the power of early education left a lasting imprint on every child she nurtured. Inspired by this enduring legacy, Faith Morey : herself a product of the same system her grandmother served launched the Okachi Charity Foundation to continue that mission with structure, vision, and impact.
What began as a heartfelt tribute has grown into a purpose-driven organization focused on restoring dignity and access to quality education for children in underserved communities. The foundation’s pilot project launched at Sangana Primary School, where Mrs. Okachi once taught. Upon seeing the school’s collapsed structure, leaky roofs, and students learning barefoot in broken classrooms, Faith and her team shifted course from symbolic renovation to urgent intervention rebuilding classrooms, sponsoring teacher salaries, and providing basic school supplies like uniforms, sandals, and learning materials.
Since then, the foundation has expanded its work across multiple public schools, including Port Harcourt Primary School in Diobu, where Faith herself once studied, Lagos , Abuja , Kano . The OCF model blends infrastructure support with direct child-centered interventions: free summer school programs, scholarships programs for A students , mentorship, creative learning, skill acquisition , learning and teaching material drive , renovation of schools , installation of playgrounds, providing clean water, and term-time essentials such as backpacks and exam fee sponsorships.
Beyond aid, OCF is a movement investing not only in schools but in futures. The Foundation’s strategic partnerships with ministries, NGOs, private donors, and grassroots educators ensure that every project is rooted in sustainability and community ownership.
At its core, the Okachi Charity Foundation exists to rewrite the story of public education in Nigeria one school, one child, one opportunity at a time. Each initiative is a tribute to Mrs. Okachi’s values: integrity, compassion, excellence, and service. And through it, her legacy lives on not just in memory, but in motion.
