LEA Zhigakuchi Nursery and primary school Infrastructure and Welfare Support Initiative

OCF is currently leading a transformative project aimed at restoring dignity and hope through education. Following our initial outreach—where we provided uniforms, shoes, backpacks, books, and toys—we conducted a needs assessment at LEA Zhigakuchi and uncovered urgent infrastructural and welfare challenges affecting pupils.

Identified Needs:
• Collapsed/missing classroom roofs exposing children to harsh weather.
• Lack of desks and chairs, forcing pupils to sit on bare floors.
• No access to clean water or sanitation facilities.
• Absence of proper toilets, posing serious health and safety risks.

Our Response:
We are working to:
• Renovate and re-roof all classrooms and administrative blocks.
• Provide proper desks, chairs, and learning materials for every classroom.
• Install durable flooring and repaint school buildings.
• Build functional toilets and a water supply system to serve the school and surrounding community.

Why It Matters:
This project is not just about restoring buildings—it’s about protecting futures. Every child deserves a safe, dignified space to learn, grow, and dream.

We Need You:
Join us as a partner in this mission. Your support helps us build more than walls—it helps us build hope.

Purpose of the Project:
At the heart of every thriving society is education but what happens when the very walls meant to nurture young minds are crumbling. ‎This project is a continuation of our commitment to improving the learning environment and overall welfare of pupils in underserved communities. Following our initial intervention, where we provided school uniforms, shoes, backpacks containing books and toys. We conducted a comprehensive needs assessment at the school and uncovered several critical areas requiring urgent attention.

‎Background and Identified Needs:
This report outlines the urgent need for a full-scale renovation of the school’s infrastructure. It is not simply about repairing a building ; it is about protecting the future of children who currently learn in conditions no child should ever endure.

‎During our visit, it was observed that:
1. No Desks or Proper Seating ( Classroom Furnishings): The few remaining desks are broken. Many students sit on bare floor. There is no structure to learning—only survival.
‎The classrooms are severely under-furnished, with many lacking adequate desks and chairs. This creates discomfort and disrupts effective learning. We plan to provide standard classroom furniture (chairs and desks) for all classrooms.

‎2. Collapsed and Missing Roofs: Most classrooms are roofless or have roofs hanging Dangerously. During the rainy season, children are forced to sit through lessons while being beaten by rain, and in the dry season, they endure the harsh heat of the sun. The roof provides no protection because it is barely there. To ensure safety and create a conducive learning atmosphere, we will renovate the classroom blocks, including structural repairs and painting.

3. No Water Supply: There is no functioning water source within the school premises. Children come to school thirsty and leave even more so.
‎It was discovered that the pupils do not have access to clean water throughout the school day. To address this, we intend to install a functional water system that operates during school hours. This will improve hygiene, reduce health risks, and provide relief for pupils, especially considering many of them come from low-income families, including local farmers who also lack access to clean drinking water at home.

‎4. No Toilets: The school has no functioning toilet. The previous structure was destroyed ; carried away by wind. Students now use nearby bushes, exposing them to danger, disease, and indignity.

We will construct a new toilet block to serve both male and female pupils, thereby promoting proper hygiene and sanitation.

Our Vision and Expected outcome for Restoration‎:
‎At the successful completion of this project, we aim to
• Re-roofing all classrooms and administrative blocks
• Installing durable flooring in all classrooms
• Repainting the school buildings to create a welcoming learning environment
• Constructing proper desks and chairs for every child
• Installing whiteboards and learning tools in every classroom
• Providing a clean water source within the school compound

Why This Matters

This is not just about bricks and mortar it’s about giving children the basic right to learn in safety and dignity. No child should be punished by the sun or the rain simply because they want an education. No teacher should struggle to inspire students while writing on cracked cement walls.

By restoring this school, we are protecting futures, igniting hope, and creating a safe space where children can dream, learn, and thrive.

A Call for Partners

We invite private sector partners, philanthropists, and individuals to join us in funding this life-changing project. Every contribution is a step toward restoring not only a school—but the dignity of a community and the promise of its children.

Together, let us build more than walls. Let us build hope.
