LEA Nursery and Primary School, Zhigakuchi (Abuja) 2025

Location: Zhigakuchi Village, Mpape, Bwari Area Council, FCT Abuja

Restoring Structure. Rebuilding Dignity.

Nestled in a remote village two hours inside Abuja, LEA Nursery and Primary School, Zhigakuchi, stands as one of the most underserved schools in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory. With no water, no toilet, and virtually no infrastructure, this school has long struggled to provide more than basic supervision let alone quality education.

Since October 2024, Okachi Charity Foundation (OCF) has committed to transforming this learning environment from the ground up. From uniform and shoe distribution to creative classroom engagement, and most recently, structural renovation OCF has remained steadfast in restoring dignity where it had long been lost.

Why We Chose Zhigakuchi
The  need is  undeniable. Children were attending without notebooks, shoes, or even a functioning toilet.  School has remained on strike since November 2024, halting their academic journey during their third term exams.
Our planned Summer School Program in 2025 meant to compensate for lost learning was postponed because the school has not resumed. But that did not stop our commitment.

What We’ve Done So Far
•June 2025 – Commenced full renovation of one classroom block, including:
•New roofing
•Rebuilding and structural framing
•Installation of doors, windows, and desks
•Whiteboards, painting, and ventilation repairs

Our distribution of learning desk in all classes was temporarily paused in May when we discovered the block had deteriorated further during rainy season. We refused to place brand-new furniture in a building that could not protect it. Instead, we accelerated plans and began rebuilding the classroom entirely.
Why Infrastructure Matters
A child’s environment is their first teacher. Infrastructure is not a luxury it is a statement of worth. When a child walks into a classroom with desks, whiteboards, painted walls, and light they begin to believe they deserve to learn.

Our Long-Term Commitment
•Renovate all three classroom blocks, starting with one fully completed block in 2025
•Construct and rehabilitate toilet and water systems, addressing both hygiene and human dignity
•Provide a dedicated playground to support cognitive, emotional, and social development
•Add volunteer teachers by the end of 2025  to improve classroom coverage
•Collaborate with UBEC Abuja and the Ministry of Education to ensure long-term sustainability of these efforts
