OCF x POCACOV Lagos Children’s Day Celebration 2025
- by OCF
Partner Organization: Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV)
Overview and Purpose
In May 2025, Okachi Charity Foundation had the privilege of joining hands with POCACOV Lagos to commemorate the annual Children’s Day Celebration an initiative aimed at protecting children from social vices and empowering them through creativity, self-expression, and education.
This collaboration was more than symbolic it marked the convergence of two missions deeply aligned in purpose. While POCACOV continues to champion the cause of crime prevention through civic engagement and youth intervention, OCF remains steadfast in its commitment to early childhood education, youth mentorship, and community upliftment in underserved areas. Together, we reinforced the belief that safe environments are essential for learning, and that investing in the mind and spirit of a child today is a radical act of crime prevention tomorrow.
Donation Summary
As part of our contribution to the Children’s Day event, OCF donated over 200 pre-drawn canvases and watercolor kits to inspire creativity, calm, and emotional expression among the children in attendance. These art kits served as tools for storytelling, therapy, and joy. Each canvas became more than a blank space it became a gateway for hope, innocence, and identity in a world that too often forgets to listen to children.
Why This Partnership Matters
OCF’s involvement with POCACOV is grounded in data and a deep understanding of the socioeconomic terrain we both serve. Across Nigeria, especially in low-income and peri-urban public schools, children are not only vulnerable to academic neglect but to exploitation by criminal networks.
At present, children as young as 10 to 12 years old particularly boys are being recruited to run petty fraud, act as couriers in drug trafficking, and are introduced to cultism or gangs under the guise of protection or opportunity. Girls are not left behind in this grim reality; they are often used to support similar crimes and are further exposed to grooming, trafficking, and systemic neglect.
By prioritizing education and security, OCF is reinforcing a two-pronged approach to long-term national transformation one rooted in literacy, and the other in prevention. Our partnership with POCACOV is a strategic alliance to close the gap between education and environmental safety.
Community Engagement & Environmental Awareness
Our shared message to the community was clear: We must address the root causes of delinquency not just its symptoms.
Children cannot learn when they are hungry, fearful, or unsafe. Our fight must begin at the level of prevention, advocacy, and education three pillars at the heart of both our foundations.
We look forward to building a safer, more educated Nigeria one child, one school, one community at a time.
