Oromineke Girls’ Secondary School Project: A Journey of Determination

On the 29th of March, 2024, the Okachi Charity Foundation (OCF) set out to make a significant impact at Oromineke Girls’ Secondary School in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The mission was ambitious: to sponsor 100 students in SS2 and SS3 to take the JAMB examination, the Nigerian equivalent of the GED.

Upon arrival, with the assistance of the Principal’s assistant, the OCF team quickly discovered the challenges ahead. Some students lacked interest in sitting for the JAMB examination, while others faced financial constraints or failed to meet the necessary requirements. One major hurdle was the new JAMB mandate requiring all students to have a National Identification Number (NIN).

Despite these obstacles, the foundation persevered. They worked tirelessly to sponsor students whose families could meet the requirements. The team navigated the bureaucratic complexities and assisted students in obtaining their NINs.

In the end, only 23 students were able to complete the registration process for both the NIN and the JAMB examination within the project’s timeline. Though this number fell short of the original goal, it represented a significant achievement given the constraints.

The dedication of the OCF team and the resilience of the students they supported were evident. While the number of sponsored students was lower than hoped, the impact on those 23 students was profound, providing them with opportunities they might not have had otherwise.

Reflecting on this project, it’s clear that every small victory counts, and each student’s success is a testament to the power of determination and support.
