Project Uplift 2025: Scholarships & Support in Port Harcourt Nursery & Primary School
- by OCF
Location: Port Harcourt Nursery and Primary School, Rivers State
Restoring Dignity in Early-Age Education
As part of our 2025 outreach in Rivers State, the Okachi Charity Foundation (OCF) visited Port Harcourt Nursery and Primary School, one of our adopted institutions, to reaffirm our pledge to equitable, inclusive, and dignified education for all. Led by our founder, Ms. Faith Morey, the visit focused on direct intervention distributing learnings & teaching materials, identifying high-performing orphans , and repairing the learning environment.
Scholarship Commitment & Orphan Support
OCF’s educational sponsorship program continues to serve as a lifeline for children in need. In all OCF-supported schools, orphans receive a full ride from Nursery through Primary Six, covering:
• Full Tuition
• Learning Materials
• Examination Fees
• Excursion Fees
• PTA fees
• Uniforms, socks, sandals, and backpacks
• extracurricular costs
In Port Harcourt, we also launched our Merit-Based Scholarship Initiative, awarding full -year academic scholarships to the top-performing pupils in each class. This ensures that brilliance, when identified, is nurtured not hindered by circumstance.
Sophia’s Story: The Heart of the Mission
During a private meeting, our founder learned of Sophia, a brilliant child top scorer in her entrance examination. She was on the verge of expulsion due to unpaid fees, her single dad unable to support. Yet her curiosity burned bright. Moved by her resilience, Ms. Morey pledged Sophia’s full sponsorship for the remaining of her stay in school from tuition to every material need with immediate effect.
Sophia’s story is a mirror of the many silent struggles children face. But it’s also a testament to what’s possible when care meets action.
Support Delivered
• Montessori learning materials were introduced in the nursery classes, igniting creativity and engagement among the youngest learners.
• Backpacks and essential learning materials were distributed across the entire school, ensuring no child was left behind.
• Uniform donations were provided to selected children most visibly in need.
• Assessment and repair of damaged classroom equipment, including backboards, were initiated to enhance the learning environment.
• Three new volunteer teachers were added to OCF’s 2025 Teaching Support Cohort, strengthening classroom capacity.
Conclusion
OCF’s mission: to make education feel like a right, not a reward. By investing in children like Sophia, reinforcing classrooms, and equipping our most promising pupils, we are planting seeds of excellence in every direction.
